Skills to Develop
A while back, I wrote down some objectives. I had realized that the most important things to acquire, are the things that no one can take away from me.
So I divised two lists. One was "Skills to Acquire" and "Tools to Acquire" (which I emphasized were things someone could take away from me).
There is no great material ambition among my objectives, except for tools I believe would help me get by (The Bare Necessities).
Well here are the lists:
Skills to Acquire
(things no one can take away from me)
- Car driving;
- Spanish language fluency;
- German language fluency;
- Understandment of electric circuits, wiring and boards repairing;
- Knowledge of automotive mechanics [be able to repair a vehicle];
- Woodwork - construction;
- Metal work - welding, construction;
- Cooking [real, good cooking];
- Sewing, kniting, mending [Clothes making and repairing];
- Understanding and recognizing different species of animals;
- Understanding and recognizing different species of plants;
- Understanding and recognizing different minerals;
- Tie a good knot;
Tools to Acquire
(things one could take away from me - less important)
- A good 4x4 vehicle;
- A shed/garage for me to work in, with all kinds of tools;
- A good kitchen with good utensils, and food source;
- ARM laptop for basic use (or RISC-V if the day comes);
- Basic Android phone;
- Driving License - CNH type E and A;
- A good nylon guitar;
I also wrote down a list I saw online, "INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS FOR ADULTS". It listed "essential skill areas an adult needs in order to live independently". I actually found this in a site called Milestones.org. It's a site for "autism strategies for life". Which is kinda funny I guess, but I actually found it pretty helpful. They answer questions "normal" people are usually embarassed to ask.
- Safety at Home & in the Community;
- Hygiene;
- Self Medical Care;
- Food/Nutrition;
- Financial Literacy;
- Driving/Transportation;
- Employment;
- Self Advocacy Skills;
- Leisure Skills;
- Executive Functioning;
- Social Skills/Relationships/Sexuality;
Just having this list as a guideline to further define how to act on each item of it is great help, I believe.
It's never too late to better ourselves.
