Vehicles

My relationship with vehicles in general is rather - inconsistent.

In one hand I find them cool and fascinating, and in the other I see many "Koyaanisqatsi" issues not limited to the vehicle itself.

I'll be more specific to the issues by giving an idea of what I want.

What I Want?

Because of my ecological tendencies I am not a big fan of fossil fuels and combustion engines. In terms of engineering they are fascinating, but we've come to a point that we NEED to find another way.

First of, we should only have what we need. If I don't need a car, I just won't have one. But I am fairly certain that I will.

There are some glaring issues nowadays regarding cars.

So I want to use an eletric car (because I don't want to use fossil fuels), but I also want a true ANALOG car. Real keys, real locks, real buttons, real everything. I want everything to be modular and easily replaceable or repairable. Basically I want a free car - free as in freedom. But I'm pretty sure no eletric car is shipped like that...

That means that I'd need to either convert a car to eletric or build one from scratch, which is VERY expensive.

Real options

I can imagine taking a Fiat Uno and converting it to eletric. I'd have endless cheap parts to go around.

I also like to imagine having a Toyota Bandeirante (Brazilian Land Cruiser). My father happens to have one, and it would be cool to inherit it. It is an excellent truck - a TANK!

I'm not sure if I would convert it to eletric though. Only if it were truly viable. But diesel is so expensive...
