This is a very personal subject, but I believe that there are parts of it that are perfectly agreeable.
Things that just biologically make sense.
It's common that, when people see someone doing the things I do regarding this, they find it too radical and even call them crazy, but what I do is just common sense. They only react like that because they're too used to the status quo.
What am I even talking about? You may ask.
Well I'll tell ya.
There are a few basic things about the common diet, that I reject very simply because of it's artificiality. Examples of that are:
Just to get this out of the way first.
All of these ideas were developed and enhanced by conversations, thought exercises, and research, all provoked by a friend of mine. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have realized a lot of issues in public health and nutrition that are very alarming.
I will now elaborate on each item mentioned.
This is probably the most 'evil' one.
The process of extraction of the oil from the seeds and vegetables is bizarre. It involves chemicals and heating several times. It's original purpose was for lubricating heavy machinery. Also, it provides a HUGE, unnatural amount of linoleic acid that can be harmful on the long run. But rather than especulating if it does harm or not, I prefer to think if it's natural or not. These oils are NOT natural. Never before the XX century did we, as a species, consume this much cooking oil.
I recommend using lard, beef tallow, butter, or olive oil like our ancestors did, or coconut oil.
There is this issue, that people think that saturated fat (mostly animal fat) is unhealthy and harmful. I believe it's necessary and healthy.
One must be careful with all types of food as not to eat excessively, otherwise it's certain to be harmful. But with vegetable and seed oils you are safer cutting them out completely.
Refer to this video for a more in depth analysis of the subject.
I don't need to plead anything for this case. We can all agree that chemicals and additives are unnatural and are generally harmful for us.
What I can do is give suggestions on how to act about it.
What I usually do is check the label for any of the following 'ingredients':
If you can, just don't buy those industrialized products. Food should be fresh, focus on that.
The argument for this one is basically the same. Try to take a 'natural' intake of sugar. It is well known how sugar in excess can lead to unhealthy reactions and tooth decay. But that doesn't mean you should cut it completely. It's a great source of energy, glucose. So it's more about taking control of your desires and how much you ingest. But, in my opinion, you should cut refined sugar completely. Nowadays, most of my sugar intake is from honey and fruits (fructose). Honey is a natural source of sugar but should still be consumed in moderation.
Historically, grains have been ESSENTIAL to the development and prosperity of many civilizations. It is relatively cheap and easy to produce. It is how great civilization managed to prosper and dominate. Wheat, Rice, Corn, the list goes on. You can relate every great civilization with a type of grain at it's center.
It can make alcoholic beverages, bread and much more.
However.
While grains, particularly whole grains, are promoted for their fiber, B vitamins, and minerals. Overdependence on them, especially refined forms, is linked to several public health concerns. Once again the industrial revolution comes into play. REFINED grains.
I've been told by a doctor that the flour one usually buys on the supermarket is actually very OLD refined flour, that it isn't fresh AT ALL. That alarmed me. Also, I've seen that refined grains can lead to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Diets high in refined grains lack essential nutrients compared to more diverse diets rich in animal products. Whole grains, however, are associated with reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.
So keep in mind:
If you've read my first article, you'll remember how I feel and how I described 'convenience'.
Fast Food suffers from the same issue and then some. It is very convenient not having to cook anything and just ordering food. It is also VERY unhealthy. In this case the detriment is not to your data and freedom, but to your HEALTH. It is MUCH more alarming.
The big fast food companies DON'T CARE about your health. All they care about is profit. And you'll find that most of the problems I see in the world and write about in here always go back to money and greed.
Here's just some factors to convince you not to eat fast food:
They exploit people and convince them to like it. I have a friend that declares himself a communist and he LOVES McDonald's, even he can't escape, although his mind IS rotted by TikTok which deserves an article of it's own.
But gee... Stop giving these companies money!
Well, that was all of the things on the common diet that I reject.
But here are some foods I recommend to emphasize on your diet:
In the future I want to have a patch of land where I can do all of that.
Breed chicken and fish, plant roots and vegetables, trees and all that. Which leads me to the next article "My House".
But to end this properly:
The basis of greed fueled capitalism is selling a solution to a CREATED problem. And that has to change.
I don't have the solution, but identifying the problem is the first step, right?
I hope we can come together and make heaven on Earth in the future.
